Splitboard Guide, Jere Burrell, left the post-industrial rust belt of northeast Ohio for the cold shallow deep slab instabilities in continental climates and eventually migrated to the west coast for the promise of deep snow immersion with record breaking snowfall amounts in the North Cascades. Now deeply rooted amongst the mossy old growth in the Cascadian foothills he practices the craft of splitboarding.

Q & A

How long have you been guiding?

Eight years!

Who has most influenced you as a guide and how?

I've been inspired by the long history and culture of the North Cascades and Mount Baker including guides such as Trevor Kostanich and Forest McBrian who brought their high levels of personal skiing to their guiding styles and Martin Volken who allowed me to develop, refine, and deliver comprehensive splitboard programs at Mount Baker. Craig Kelly and Liz Daly have roots here at Baker and I see their legacies live on through this place. Lastly, Eric Layton & Brendan Burns who opened the door to Certified Splitboard guides through the AMGA.

What certifications do you have?

AMGA Splitboard & Rock Guide, Assistant Alpine Guide, A3 Pro Member, AIARE Course Leader.

What are you most excited about for the 24/25 season?

Through Guided Exposure I have another amazing season of domestic and international trips from Baker and Hokkaido to AK and Europe. Hosting the Mount Baker Splitfest by providing free clinics for the community. Passing on the art of split guiding to the next class of dedicated and passionate riders.

Why ride Spark R&D gear?

It's the most reliable, rideable, and original splitboard gear out there.
