So we’ll be traveling to unknown locations in the Alps again this year to find the best possible conditions and touring. It’s as much an adventure as an event, but we’ll have our own snow forecasters again, so powder guaranteed.
We’re pretty stoked to make it another great weekend with old friends and new participants!
The most important goal is to have fun splitboarding, whether you’re a total beginner or a seasoned pro. We’ll have demo gear available thanks to our awesome sponsors, and for those without their own gear we can arrange rental gear too. And you can win very cool prices again in this year’s surprise contest.
Some changes from last year: Respect the Mountains is our partner this year. We’ll take a more sustainable approach and will offer group transport to reduce CO2 emissions. What remains is our principle that this should be a free and non-commercial event, where everybody has a great time.

The 5th Annual Vancouver Island Backcountry Festival takes place at Mt. Cain on Feb. 7-8. We will once again be offering guided tours by donation, with ACMG certified guides whose goal will be to take people out and explore while offering advice, tips, and education along the way. The gear raffle takes place on Saturday where we will be raffling off gear donated by our sponsors. All proceeds from the raffle and guided tours go to support the Vancouver Island Avalanche Centre Society, enabling us to continue to provide forecasting for the island. Saturday night will host the now legendary backcountry party, where we will setup more than our share of lights, lasers and speakers outside in the snow, with multiple DJ’s to keep people dancing into the early hours of the morning.

Join 40 Tribes for a Splitfest like none other – 7 days of guided splitboarding based out of traditional yurts deep in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan, Central Asia, Feb. 8-14, 2015.
The idea for the Splitfest week is to gather together a group of strong, adventurous riders to explore the possibilities for splitboarding in mountains that have been little explored. We will focus on tour planning as a group each night while sitting around the fire, then put our planning into practice each day, highlighting safe and efficient travel through the mountains on our splits to access the goods!
The week is open to both seasoned splitters and proficient riders who are new to touring.

The ski domain of La Grave – La Meije is unique. There is only one cable car taking skiers and snowboarders to 3200m. There is one small poma lift on the glacier, to 3600m. Besides for one small piste on the glacier the vast domain is all on your own risk. There is no avalanche dynamiting, no marked trails, just a few signs. It is wild terrain and around 2000m of pure mountain experience. There are four ski patrolers, employed by the mayor. Their role: analyze the conditions, informing lift customers on the conditions and together with the guides at the guide bureau taking the decision if the lift could open or not on a daily basis.
La Grave has become known as one of the world’s most extreme ski resorts, featuring terrain that is usually reserved for backcountry areas in the Chugach, Alps, Himalayas, Andes and Caucus mountain ranges. Simply, La Grave offers lift service to some of the biggest and boldest terrain in the world.

Exum's 3-day Snowboard Mountaineering Clinic is for splitboarders who would like to ride some of the best snowboard terrain in the [...]
The clinic is designed to give intermediate backcountry snowboarders the chance to progress to the next level, and take on a high peak.
If you ride blues and blacks at your local resort; or snowboard in the backcountry; or if you think you’re ready for steeper and more technical terrain — this clinic is for you.
We are offering this clinic with two options: lodging included or you can come for just the snowboarding.
You will spend 1 day on Snow King Mountain, also know as the “Town Hill” in Jackson. The accessibility and high concentration of expert terrain make this a perfect venue for steep snowboarding skills, introduction to technical rope work, or just refining your turns.
The skills you practice will then be put to the test for the next 2 days while we venture up in the high peaks of the Tetons. Exum Guides are comprised of American Mountain Guides Association trained guides, AASI instructors and some of the most accomplished snowboard guides in the business. This is your chance to get coached by the best!
The list of topics and skills covered includes : Gear selection, knots, introduction to technical rope work, use of an ice axe, crampons, steep snowboarding technique, partner communication, terrain assessment and hazard evaluation. Participants should be comfortable snowboarding blue terrain and harder, and be able to skin up a minimum of 4,000 feet in a day. Come to this camp fit and you will have more fun!
Please call Brendan Burns (307-690-6677) or the Exum office (307-733-2297) if you have questions, or to register.

Instead of battling crowds and sneaking your way through endless lines, splitboarding opens countless new possibilities. You find yourself driving past the resorts, past the huge parking grounds, past the crowds and continue your drive to the backcountry. You climb your way to the top through fresh powder. You earn your lines. As more and more riders discover splitboarding the boundaries of what can be done (both up and down the mountain) continues to be pushed. The community grows. Sebastian Bichsel and Mario Hari, founders of the Alpine Splitfest, felt the need of a unity, a come-together of the splitboard community which – until now – mainly existed online. The Alpine Splitfest was born.
The goal of the festival is to provide testing possibilities to people interested in splitboarding, to unite splitboarders and to go on tours together. Moreover, the founders want to educate the riders to the ecological impacts and to safety matters. Besides the main programmed, events like a BBQ, live music, DJs, film presentations, mountain yoga and speeches by experienced splitboarders will take place. To support the feeling of ‘pure nature’, riders and guests have the possibility to sleep on the mountain. Food, drinks and lavatories are available.
